Holy...fortune cookies?
You can see and hear the same message over and over, but when it's in your fortune cookie? It must be a sign from God!
I think we overlook the significance of serving others before serving ourselves. Jesus Himself was hospitality brought to life as He loved and welcomed friends and strangers as neighbors. He longed to help and take care of everyone around Him, even if they mocked Him, hurt Him, or used Him.
Sometimes it's draining to lend a helping hand, open your wallet, or share love and wisdom—especially with people who bring hurt or disappointment. But if Jesus, the most perfect human being to ever exist, can accept this behavior from sinners, why shouldn't we as sinners be understanding towards fellow sinners?
Romans 12:9; "Let love be without hypocrisy."
12:10; "Outdo one another in showing honor."
12:18; "If possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone"
Be a friend even when they might not be the friendliest, be a neighbor even if you live differently, be a teacher to those needing warm guidance, and be a light to those stuck in darkness.
Most importantly,
"Be hospitable to one another without complaining" (1 Peter 4:9).
Serve others without setting expectations.
Have grace when someone speaks or acts in harsh ways.
Be grateful to know that our fullness does not derive from the people or things around us, even if we try to make them the center of our lives.
Leave behind worldly attitudes.
Live (and love) like Jesus.
